Polyphonic settings of popular tunes present in the repertoire of Dutch 17th century recorder collections

The well-known 17th century recorder player and carillonneur Jacob van Eyck improvised on popular tunes from his time, like Amarilli mia bella by Giulio Caccini or the Lachrimae Antiquae by John Dowland. The newest recording by The Royal Wind Music features a selection of original compositions from the Renaissance and the Baroque periods. All works are polyphonic settings of melodies included in the two volumes of Van Eyck's collection of variations for solo recorder Der Fluyten Lust-hof. Many of those melodies originated long before the 17th century, and remained in use up to the time of Johann Sebastian Bach and beyond.
